With one CRM to rule them all, Salesforce is the T-Rex of the SaaS world, eating more of the CRM marketshare than SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, and Adobe combined. Over 150,000 customers orgs and tens of millions of users live inside the Sales, Support, Marketing, etc “clouds.”
To date Salesforce’s AppExchange marketplace has facilitated over 8 million installs, with nearly 90% of all Salesforce customer orgs installing at least one app.
That’s why IDC thinks Salesforce generated $20 billion in 2020 revenue for its 2,000+ ISV partners. A T-Rex that shares more with its velociraptors than it eats might better be named “Godzilla.”

Salesforce’s ecosystem is enormous. IDC estimates that for every $1 of revenue generated by the company, five times that number is generated by its partners and service providers.
If we understand IDC’s math correctly, that’s $20 billion in 2020 revenue generated by the 2,000+ ISVs selling software on the AppExchange- and that’s before the Slack acquisition.
Our friendly competitors at CodeScience report that ISVs on the AppExchange raised over $4 billion in venture capital in 2020.
If those VCs are right (with Salesforce itself the most active investor), there must be real marketing benefit to integrating and distributing your SaaS through the AppExchange.
